Does my Model 700 have a free-floated barrel?

Table of contents

Only the Model 700 Tactical Target, SPS Tactical, VS SF II, Model 700 Sendero SF II and most Custom Shop rifles are factory free-floated. Other Model 700 models and Model Seven models, including the Model 700 VLS, feature a pressure point near the tip of the fore-end of the stock.  You can check to see if your barrel is free floated by sliding a dollar bill between the barrel and the stock.  If it is slides all the way down to the receiver, it is free floated.  If it only slides a short distance down and "stops" then it has pressure points.
